The Rockwood community came together on February 9, 2008 for its first “Pond Hockey’ tournament at Lloyd Dyer Park.  Robin Milne from the Township Park and Recreation Department organized and planned the event along with his staff, the rink volunteers from the local outdoor rinks, the Rockwood Fire Department, Rockwood Lions Club and the Grand River Conservation Authority.

Although a trophy was awarded for the winner of the challenge in the senior division and rink division, the challenge itself was noncompetitive and a lot of fun was enjoyed by all. The poor ice rink weather leading up to the event was absolutely dreadful and posed a little bit of a problem but overall the atmosphere and celebration was exciting and definitely built community spirit.

The Rockwood Lions cooked food for sale. Music was played and heard through the park.  A welcoming fire and marshmallow roast helped warm the participants along with a heated shelter where the Grand River Conservation Authority held an animal demonstration for all.  Show shoeing was explained and a fun race was conducted as well.

This will possibly become an annual event. THANK YOU ROBIN and all volunteers!!! What a WONDERFUL celebration!
