The first Eramosa Township School Board formulated rules for conducting the schools under their control, according to early historian W.F. MacKenzie (Source: The Guelph Weekly Mercury and Advertiser, August 23, 1906):
1. Hours of attendance, from nine in the morning until noon, and from one o’clock until four in the afternoon.
2. School to be kept eleven days in two weeks, and a vacation of one week in hay time or harvest, and also from the 24 th day of December until the 2 nd day of January.
3. All gambling and trading strictly prohibited among the scholars.
4. Morality and cleanliness to be strictly adhered to.
5. The common version of the English Bible is recommended to be used in schools except by the children of such parents as object thereto. Other books are left to the discretion of the teachers until further notice from the Board.
