›› Sergeant John S. Coker (1885 - 1917)

Sergeant John S. Coker was the son of John Coker and Hannah Bolton and the grandson of John and Agnes Coker. His paternal grandparents had emigrated to Eramosa Township from Scotland prior to the birth of his father in 1860.

John was born and raised in Eramosa Township. He participated in the 30th Wellington Rifles for five years prior to signing up for military duty on September 22, 1914. At that time he listed his occupation as carpenter and his religion as Presbyterian.

John S. Coker was killed in military service on May 3, 1917 at the age of 32 and is buried at the Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France. He was the recipient of a Military Medal.
